Most makers of this period (early-mid 20th Century) made non-descript pieces with the usual profile but F. Dick practically turned the humble cleaver into the curvaceous work of cutler's art you see here. It was crafted with a pleasingly curved line and a fully hand-forged carbon steel blade, made in Esslingen, Germany for use by professional chefs and the meat-cutting trade. Handle scales are old-growth beechwood of the finest quality, naturally water-resistant and now luminously patinated by the touch of many hands and the passing of many years, hafted over a full and tapered tang with three old-fashioned birdseye rivets. Like all carbon steel knives, it must be kept dry, even during use, but this minor inconvenience is more than offset by the superb edge maintenance and performance offered by carbon steel, as any experienced chef or butcher over the age of 50 can confirm. Best of all, perhaps, this exceptional knife was recently given an EXTREMELY sharp professional edge and must be treated with extreme care.

It measures 14.25" long with a blade that's 7" by 4.75, humped at the tip to give greater OOMPH! Weighing in at 25.5 ounces this cleaver has some true substance to it and will make quick work of any game, livestock or other meats that it may encounter. Whether you're someone who butchers their own livestock or game, a chef in need of some heft in his/her arsenal, or simply a collector looking for one of the finest cleavers ever produced, this is an excellent find, offered here in heirloom condition.
