Its blade appears to be stainless steel but in fact, it is hand-forged carbon steel and will discolor normally with use.

It was reinforced in nickel silver at the bolster of its beautifully and tightly grained genuine (bovine) bone handle which is fully intact, free of cracks, brass-pinned over a full and tapered tang. It's a late 19th Century pattern that outshines and outclasses anything in the modern marketplace. Its maker's mark is stamped along with their pyramids logo, N.

NIXON & WINTERBOTTOM, PYRAMID WORKS SHEFFIELD. This maker once produced outstanding cutlery of every description, now long gone, but the quality and utility of this outstanding knife will outlive us both and several generations of our progeny if properly maintained.

Even more than its beauty and condition, the most remarkable thing about the piece, by far, is its performance in the kitchen. It is a VERY remarkable knife, indeed. Its slightly flexible and EXTREMELY sharp blade does things right the first time. It will make FAST work peeling, paring or performing culinary surgery on any of your kitchen's most demanding tasks.
