Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades.

In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. At first glance it may appear to be capable of a world of speed, precision and authority in any kitchen, but upon first use any truly skilled chef will realize that it is capable of so much more. This knife dates from late 1800's/early 1900's when the German cutlery industry was at its pinnacle and it was produced by one of its truly legendary makers, Friedrich Herder and Son of Solingen, whose equally legendary spade logo is clearly stamped into its makers markings. There's no denying the outstanding beauty and utility of such a piece, and in terms of its design, materials, craftsmanship, condition and especially performance, it wants for nothing. As you can see in the photos, the blade is carbon steel, hafted onto a smooth and beautifully grained, teardrop-shaped horn handle of the highest quality, pierced through in the Nogent style with a hidden, rat-tail tang.

Bolster is reinforce with the older-style high-hat german silver ferrule, which also helps date it. Expertly hand-forged from virgin steel, it's as good as it gets and beats by a mile just about anything in the modern market, where robotically controlled mass production has all but eliminated craftsmanship from cutlery, as any visit to your local mall will confirm. Its finely pointed blade measures 8.5" long (knife is 13-1/8" long overall) and can do just about any task demanded of it in any kitchen, amateur or professional. From carving a roast or turkey to light-duty slicing (it will WAFERIZE an onion), to preparing lunch (it's the ultimate sandwich/charcuterie knife), its usefulness is limited only by your imagination. An heirloom quality piece in heirloom quality condition for use or display among any collector's finest pieces.
