FINE Antique Sabatier/Fischer French Chef's Knife Sharpening Steel withHorn Handle

This is a beautiful antique piece of exceptional quality, made by FIscher in France (they later went on to make sharpening steels on behalf of Sabatier) with a fully-forged and integral construction in which rod, handle and lanyard were all crafted from a single billet of steel.

It was an upscale piece in its day--and still is! Its handle scales are ox-horn hafted over a full and tapered tang, bolstered with a cross quillon to help keep your fingers where they belong--on your hand. It's tang-stamped above handle with "Fischer, " on one side with some additional stampings on the reverse, though I don't recognize them (the original importer or distributor, perhaps). It's used, obviously, but still in excellent condition, and has been properly maintained throughout its long life--rare for a piece of this age.
