It's a German-made piece for sure and is clearly marked with a German crown logo and the initials C&RL (plus its size, 12), but I've never been able to learn what that represents.

This is a GREAT piece in equally GREAT condition but nothing is so great as its performance. It functions even BETTER than when it was new. Its blades measure exactly 12.25" long from corner to corner in a straight line, and are an extra 2.5" wide. It's very well-preserved and has seen little use over the years. To keep it that way, always keep it coated with a very thin layer of non-toxic mineral oil on handles and on its carbon steel blades to prevent rusting and to keep all surfaces looking young. In one key way, too, it's better than new, having received, for the purposes of this sale, a professional edging of both blades by the good folks at Ross Cutlery in downtown Los Angeles--the best in the business. As such it will astonish even the most jaded user. To be sure, it will make quick work of any herbs, vegetables or ANYTHING foolish enough to get in its way! Its twin blades are hand-forged, beautifully bevelled, and as sturdy as can be.

They're very thick at the back edge, yet superbly ground flat on one side, like a fine sushi knife blade, though doubled. The resulting performance is unmatched. Handles are turned cherry, bolstered by brass ferrules that give the piece yet one more dimension of beauty.

Its nice EXTRA-LARGE size makes it very versatile and easy to handle for any number of chores in the kitchen. No matter how many knives you may already own, you're truly missing something great if you don't have a knife like this.
