Produced in the largest size the company made, this superb vintage chef's knife was made in Southbridge, Massachusettes by Dexter and is designated with Dexter model #48914. It was made with a superb carbon steel blade which is as finely forged as anything from England, Germany or France--better in many ways. Dexter didn't make very many in this size owing to their enormous price tag and those few that found a home were either worked to death in a prep kitchen or are lovingly clung to by their devoted owners. Having been professionally honed to a RAZOR sharp edge for the purpose of this sale, knives like this are useful not only for chopping, dicing and mincing at the speed of light, but equally adept at slicing foods thinner than thin, all on a single stroke. In short, it is SUPERB, and we fully guarantee your satisfaction with it. Like all Dexters of this vintage it was made with a blade magnificently forged from the highest-quality carbon steel, and its handle was beautifully crafted from genuine old-growth rosewood, selected for its beauty and tightness of grain. Both blade and tang are beautifully tapered--the product of skilled men and women in the United States, for whom pride and craftsmanship were the everyday norm, rather than the exception.

This is the ONE knife you'll want to take with you on a desert island (there are many chefs who use this style of knife for EVERY job in the kitchen). At this size (14.25" blade, 19.75" overall), the knife handles incredibly well and will serve equally well for virtually any chef, amateur or professional. As you can see in the photos, condition is used but with no damage to blade or handles and the entire piece is simply gorgeous.
