It was made in Solingen, Germany by Friedrich Herder, one of that legendary cutlery city's most legendary makers and bears their most famous design element in which a brass spade is inlaid flush into its solid rosewood handle. That's quite a bold offer to make but this knife fully backs it up with all the quality of materials, craftsmanship and especially condition that one could ever hope to have. As you can see in the photos it's virtually new looking. Its blade is hand-forged stainless steel of the highest quality, as you'd fully expect from any Herder knife from this Constant line of theirs.
Its curved and swooping yatagan blade is incredibly finely pointed and measures 7.25" long (11-7/8" overall length), hand-forged to be all of one piece: blade, bolster and hidden tang, which runs the entire length of the handle, with the end visible at the pommel. It's stamped, not etched, CONSTANT, FRIEDR. Its balance in your hand and its relative light weight enable it to speed through your workday in the kitchen like a long-lost sixth finger reappearing suddenly on your hand. If you're someone with a smaller hand, this knife will prove to be a godsend, offering you all the benefits of a slicing knife in a welcome, manageable size, What truly elevates this knife above all others, though, is the fineness with which the blade was forged--you will NOT find better at any price. For smoked salmon, for charcuterie, for onions--the only limit on the knife's utility is your own imagination. You'll certainly NOT be seeing another one of these anytime soon, especially not in such beautifully perserved condition. A great opportunity for yourself or a lucky loved one on your gift list to acquire an heirloom quality piece in heirloom quality condition.
