Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades.

In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. This beautiful old knife was made in Watertown, Wisconsin by the Village Blacksmith company and it is truly a knife to get excited about. It's a style that has been known alternately as a buffalo skinner and a lamb-splitter, but no matter what you may call it it's the knife you want to reach for when you only want to reach once. It's a style and size, though, that was widely carried by buffalo hunters in the years immediately following the Civil War, and though it's a 20th Century piece, it is of that 19th Century lineage. It's also remarkable for its condition, which is excellent, and in one key way it's BETTER than new, having been professionally edged for this sale by the good folks at Ross Cutlery in downtown Los Angeles, the best in the business.

As such it's FAR sharper than when it was brand new and guaranteed to THRILL. It is even more beautiful than the digital photos make it look, even though it looks pretty good already!

Its large curved carbon steel blade was hand-forged with a tapered tang, hafted with beautifully grained rosewood handle scales that are as warm to eh hand as they are easy on the eyes. It's stamped VILLAGE BLACKSMITH, WATERTOWN, WIS. On its blade, as you can see, and that is very good news indeed because this maker produced some of the finest steel used in American cutlery during its time. It's also got the name of its original distributor on its handle, McCoy Refrgerator Co.

A servicer of larger industrial meat-processing facilities and small butcher shops alike. Though it has some considerable collector value, it would be a shame not to use it, if you're able. Carbon steel blades of this vintage can hold a razor's edge like no other and it can still do more than its share of butchering game or livestock. I have one and use mine as a cleaver for meats and also for sugar cane, which my wife cooks with from time to time. Hunters LOVE these for use in jointing game in the field for ease of carry-out.

Comes with 10" blade (16" overall length) that is 2-5/8 wide at its widest, and runs. 25 thick along most of its length; weighs in at a very impressive 23.9 ounces.
