Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades.

In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. At 18.25" long with a 12.25" blade and weighing in at just a hair over an impressive 21 ounces, it's in a class by itself--FAR more hefty than any butcher knife yet not quite as massive as one of their lamb-splitting knives of the same era, which would be sometime in the late 1880's-early 1900's. A knife of this size and weight is a BREAKING knife, used for breaking down a massive carcass or side of meat into roasts, steaks, chops and other market-sized cuts. As such, this knife is ULTRA-RARE and ULTRA-USEFUL to any butcher, chef, hunter or rancher who needs the best cutlery to dress game, livestock or other meats. Despite being well over 100 years old it is in superb condition, as you can see in the photos, and we've had it professionally edged by Ross Cutlery in downtown L. One of the best in the business, and it's now RAZOR keen in a way that very, very few knives ever can be--far sharper than when it was new. This is truly an impressive piece, to say the least, and will serve any user and collector brilliantly.

Its long, bullnose blade was hand-forged with a full and tapered tang from some of the finest cutlery steel ever batched. Boxwood handle scales were hafted in brass over this tapered tang, warm to the touch and naturally oily, resistant to water in a way that all wood used for cutlery handles should be but isn't. The wood is perfectly intact and free of any cracks, chips or other damage. As its markings on blade and handle clearly show, it was made by hand in St.

The entire piece is beautifully weathered and it just begs to be held. Though it has some considerable collector value, it would be a shame not to use it, if you're able. Carbon steel blades of this vintage can hold a razor's edge like no other and it can still do more than its share of butchering of game or livestock. As with all carbon steel blades it must be kept dry to prevent rusting but this minor inconvenience is more than offset by the superior performance delivered by carbon steel, as any veteran chef or butcher can readily confirm.

Knives like this are also carried while hunting large game in northern climates and nothing will do a better job at quartering a kill in a hurry. Its handles are as warm and comfortable in the hand as they are easy on the eye. If you're simply collecting, you're in luck--this is a rare opportunity to add some authenticity and quality--not to mention SIZE--to your collection. And don't listen to the anybody: SIZE. An instant heirloom for user and collector alike and the kind of knife you'll be proud to pass along to future generations.
