Contrary to what many people believe, Hoffritz never actually manufactured items but was a design studio: a design studio who contracted with the best companies in the world to execute their cutting edge designs. Wusthof, of course, remains today one of the finest cutlery companies Solingen, Germany has ever known, and the knife was made there sometime in the period 1950's-60's. Wusthof knives of this ultra-fine line are prized world-wide for itheir highly-polished black horn handles and for their beautifully etched blades, which depict a semi-abstract composition of geometric, floral and animal forms.

Blade is stainless steel, polished to a mirror's finish, and measures 8.25" long (knife is 13.25" long overall). The blade is beautifully, expertly ground in a way that few others are and its resulting edge is frightfully effective and VERY keen. Its swooping blade glides through meats, poultry, fish, onions, tomaotes or anything else unfortunate enough to get in its way. Without doubt, however, the star of this piece is its genuine horn handle, hand-carved to an ergonomically correct grip, which is PERFECT.

This handle has a very slight curvature to it, which conforms to the human hand seamlessly. As you can see in the photos, it's a breathtaking masterpiece of the cutler's art, found here in excellent condition, appearing to have been used very little, if at all.
