It was custom made here in the USA in the style of a gyuto, which is the Japanese interpretation of the traditional French chef's knife.

Its maker, a friend of ours who has since passed on, was a very talented knife-maker and he pulled out all the stops in producing this masterpiece. In terms of its design, materials, craftsmanship, condition but especially performance, it's the kind of knife that some lucky winner will find transcendent.

That's a mighty fancy word to use for a kitchen knife but it isn't used lightly here because for someone it will be the RIGHT knife, the one they've been looking for their whole life but probably didn't even know it--until now. Its blade was hand-forged from an old Ford truck's leaf spring, some of the finest steel you can find, then re-fired and re-forged to give it the ideal properties for a knife. Measuring 16" long with a 10-5/8" blade, its edge is double-beveled to accomodate right- or left-handed use, WICKEDLY sharp in a way that very knives ever are--guaranteed to thrill even the most jaded chef. Blade was forged with a rat-tail tang, which is sunk into some kind of beautiful, solid hardwood handle and bolstered with a chunk of solid redwood. It was this maker's custom to use exotic woods of the very highest quality, usually repurposed from old broken furniture.

Just look at it--a work of the cutler's art. It's ideal for chopping, dicing, mincing, a deliverance from mediocrity. A fantastically effective knife in even the most demanding kitchen and something that is sure to become an instant heirloom in even the most discriminating kitchen or display case.
