RARE AND FINE CA 1880 SABATIER LA TROMPETTE MEDAILLE D'OR CHEF / BUTCHER KNIFE. Exceptional early Jean Auguste Sabatier chef's knife clearly stamped MEDAILLE D'OR EXP on UN el 1878 LA TROMPETTE. Measures 16 1/8 long with sharp original tip. I have gently restored / cleaned it and given it a light sharpening.
The handles on these Sabatiers were known to be ebony and this appears to be the case and clearly matches a couple of others I was able to find images of. I find it remarkable that something so utilitarian and common can survive for 140 or so years in this condition..
