Vintage ESKILSTUNA Sweden Chef's Hand-forged Carbon Butcher Knife RAZOR SHARP

Curiously, some were made in Germany and some were made in France but all of them are of the highest quality. This one, however, was made in Sweden, stamp ed on its hand-forged blade, ESKILSTUNA KNIFE CO. And a finer example of this type of knife would be impossible to name. There are a few things that really elevate it above and beyond most knives of its kind.

First of all, it has a fatted tang, thickest at pommel of handle and tapering towards the knife's point and towards its edge--a REAL sign of age, since this design pre-dates the tapered tang and is a real bonus, especially when you use it. The condition of the entire knife is also surprisingly beautiful, with an antique glow that can only be produced by the touch of a thousand hands and the passing of many years. The knife has a VERY full blade and entirely intact handles--quite rare to say the least. It's also RAZOR sharp and any user will be jumping for joy. Like all such knives, it was hand-forged with a stiff and strong 8" blade that's clipped with a long false-edge (12.75" overall).

Its rosewood handles have gotten quite buttery looking over the years and are, riveted with very beautiful, old-style brass and steel birdseye rivets. Handle and blade are joined at the bolster with clad iron. When you use a knife like this, it feels like an extension of your hand, not a mere object that you're holding. It's superb aesthetics are matched by it's performance. Though designed for cutting and trimming meats, this is the perfect knife for a wide variety of all-purpose kitchen tasks, from creating thin slices of turkey breast, tomato, cucumber, onion or whatever, to quickly dispatching twine and stubborn plastic packaging materials.
