It was made by Wusthof for sale in Hoffritz stores acorss the world to be one of the finest, most effective master carving knives ever made. Contrary to what many people believe, Hoffritz never actually manufactured items but was a design studio: a design studio who contracted with the best companies in the world to execute their cutting edge designs.

Wusthof, of course, remains today one of the finest cutlery companies Solingen, Germany has ever known, and the knife was made there sometime in the period 1950's-60's. Wusthof knives of this ultra-fine line are prized world-wide for itheir highly-polished sambar stag handles and for their mirror-polished blades, hand-forged in stainless steel from some of the finest German cutlery steel ever made. Despite its age this knife is found here in very good condition complete with its original protective leather scabbard (scabbard is missing some stitching), as fine as any custom-made knife you could pay to possess. Blade measures 12" long (knife is 17" long overall). The blade is beautifully, expertly ground in a way that few others are and will take a resulting edge that is frightfully effective.

Like all fine carving/ham/roast/salmon knives, it comes with a spearpoint tip, which avoids being caught up in bone or connective tissue as many pointier knives sometimes do, and makes for a pleasant presentation at a carving station or your holiday table. Without doubt, however, the star of this piece is its genuine stag handle, hand-carved to an ergonomically correct grip, which is PERFECT. This handle has a very slight curvature to it, which conforms to the human hand seamlessly. As you can see in the photos, it's a breathtaking masterpiece of the cutler's art. Best of all, this knife predates the industry's widespread conversion to using recycled steel stock and was forged from virgin steel instead. Whether you are a professional or amateur chef, you'll instantly come to love this knifeas an heirloom quality piece, in heirloom quality condition, all offered at a very nice price indeed--lower than you would pay at your local mall for an uninteresting German slicing knife of the same size with black plastic handle.
