Vintage Heavy Weight Heavy Duty Chopper Cleaver Butcher Knife with Solid Steel Blade & Wood Handle Made by. Briddell Company (Carvel Hall's predecessor) was founded by Charles D. Briddell in Crisfield, Maryland in 1895. In its early years, it functioned as a blacksmith shop manufacturing carts and farm equipment.
It also made seafood harvesting tools for local watermen. Its brands include Briddell, Carvel Hall. This cleaver knife has the blade forged from the solid steel. And hardened & tempered to achieve greater toughness. The handle is triple riveted over the full tang to secure fitting for durability, strength, & balance. It has the heavy weight designed for heavy cutting and chopping jobs, such as cutting through bones and separating frozen foods. Weight 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 lbs. Pitting patina on both sides of the blade (last two photos), blade structure is good.Maintenance Suggestion: Hand wash only in warm water after using, especially if used on foods that have acidic sauce/liquid. After washing it, wipe the blade and handle completely dry. Use of electric knife sharpener or dishwasher not recommended.
