Antique 19thC Meissen Porcelain Blue Onion Knife & Fork Handle Porzellan Cutlery

A nice porcelain handled knife and fork set made by Meissen in the late 19th or early 20th century. They are both visible marked which is rather rare to see!

Both porcelain handles are decorated with their famous under glaze blue onion (Zwiebelmuster) design. It has the hole at the end of the handle where the metal fork part goes through the porcelain and comes out at the end. These were not made that way in the newer versions. Sadly the tines are probably not original anymore but were replaced.

The porcelain is hand painted with their under glaze blue floral and insect design one sees fairly often on plates and such but not often on silverware. It includes a nice floral arrangement as well as small single flower and two bugs. The forks is in good working order but the porcelain does have three hairlines going from the ferrule metal part into the handle about 1 inch each. It still is solid and still a nice example and could be used if one wanted to.

The whole thing is about 7.125 inches long with the porcelain being about 3.125 inches long. German Germany Griff Messer & Gabel. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces.
