Norstaal Aztec 18/8 Norway Flatware aka Lauffer Vantage 39 piece dining set
Near complete set of vintage Lauffer cutlery marked on reverse (spoons and forks, not knives) as "AZTEC 18/8 STAINLESS NORWAY". 4 x large serving spoons 5 x dinner forks 6 x salad forks 6 x butter knife 5 x soup spoons 5 x teaspoons 4 x demitasse or espresso. This classic mid-century modern design was created by the famous designer Don Wallance in 1966. Originally Lauffer contracted Norstaal to manufacture this pattern in Norway. In America it was called the Vantage pattern, and those pieces were marked Lauffer.
" In Europe it was called the Aztec pattern, and those pieces were marked "Aztec. The Lauffer marked pieces as well as the Aztec marked pieces were both made at the same factory. The only difference that I can detect between the Vantage and Aztec pieces is that the Aztec dinner knife has a serrated edge, while the Vantage dinner knife has a plain edge. Later on, the Stelton company continued to make this pattern.A Teaspoon is about 6-1/4 inches long. A Soup Spoon is about 7-5/8 inches long. A Dinner Knife is about 8-1/4 inches long. A Dinner Fork is about 7-1/2 inches long. A Salad or Dessert Fork is about 6-3/8 inches long.
A Butter Knife is about 6-13/16 inches long. A Demitasse (coffee spoon) is about 4-11/16 inches long. A Sugar Spoon is about 6 inches long.
A Table Serving Spoon is about 7-7/8 inches long. All pieces were made with high quality stainless steel in Bergen, Norway. Most pieces are made of 18-8 stainless steel, which holds up very well with age.
